Morning Performance: A Week at the Movies: 5: Hollywood Part 2

on BBC Radio 3

With Tommy Pearson.

The three greatest composers of Hollywood's heyday were probably Korngold, Franz Waxman and Bernard Hermann. Between them they bestrode the golden era of film-making, when each studio had its own orchestra and when stars included Errol Flynn, Douglas Fairbanks and Greta Garbo. Today the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Robert Ziegler play some of the great scores by these three giants, including music from films such as Sunset Boulevard, Citizen Kane, Vertigo, A Place in the Sun and The Sea Hawk.
