The Lancashire painter L. S. Lowry recently described himself in an interview as * a Sunday painter who paints every day in the week.' This characteristically modest and witty assessment of his talent is elaborated, analysed and disputed in this evening's programme celebrating the opening of the Tate Gallery's exhibition of Lowry's work.
