Great Victorians
The great playwright George Bernard Shaw had a second career as Como di Bassetto, one of the most outspoken music critics of his day. His reviews were brilliant and included biting comments on contemporary art and society. He disliked the music of Brahms but was enthusiastic about Mozart and, especially, Wagner. But he took a poor performance as a personal insult and made many enemies.
