J. F. STEWART : Northern Russia '
Mr. Stewart's first experience abroad occurred when he joined the Cape Civil Police and then was asked to join that of the Transvaal Republic under President Kruger, whom he knew very well. Returning to this country, his work took him to North Africa, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Madeira, and the Canaries, and later to Newfoundland, Labrador, Canads., and the United
States, which he knows from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Then on to South Africa, South Central Africa, Portuguese East Africa, and all the provinces ; the Baltic countries, Poland, Yugo-Slavia, Montenegro, and Russia, which he has visited many times. One of his journeys was by sledge in winter over thousands of miles of the northern forests, a journey which he believes no other foreigner has been allowed to make since the revolution.
