Morning Performance: A Week at the Ballet: 1: France: A Tradition Is Born

on BBC Radio 3

Some of the greatest composers have written for the ballet, most prominently Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky. David Bintley, director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, presents a week of programmes tracing some of the highlights of this rich but often neglected repertoire.

Today the BBC Concert Orchestra under Barry Wordsworth perform excerpts from Herold's La Fille Mal Gardee, Adam's Giselle, Delibes's Coppelia, Messager's Les Deux Pigeons and Massenet's Le Cid.
