SHIPS UNDER THE PLOUGH

on BBC Home Service Basic

View in Radio Times

by Ian Rodger
* I have just come back from a visit to what was once the bottom of the sea. Men have sailed over that land ever since the stone age. Storms in the Zuider Zee have taken their toll throughout the centuries and thousands of ships were sunk there. Many of these ancient vessels rotted away, but others sank into the soft silt now being prepared for farmers.' Mr. Rodger describes some very old and curious ships discovered after land drainage work in Holland.
