34th Annual CMA Awards

on BBC Radio 2

Nick Barraclough and Bob Harris broadcast from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with exclusive live coverage of this year's Country Music Association Awards, the most important event in the country music calendar. As well as guiding listeners through the ceremony, they will also be talking to some of the stars straight from the winners' podium. The awards ceremony features performances from nominated artists.

Choice
For once my money's on the favourites: the Dixie Chicks have been nominated for dozens of Country Music Association Awards (12.55am R2). They are funny, harmonious and just fayantayastic. Git on down to the ole Opry House at Nashville, real late, in the company of Vince Gill (above) - host for the ninth consecutive year - and see how they do.
Leaving Tennessee behind, travel at full velocity into the digital age and open up The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Future with Douglas Adams (11.00am R4). Here you will discover that Mike Nesmith, a wizened old Monkee, knows how to aim songs directly into the net, as does David Bowie. Listen, and you'll come to it.
Somewhere between these two habitats, a plane takes a man home to his family. But brace yourself before asking How Was Your Flight? (3.30pm R4). SG
