Afternoon Play: The Road Back

on BBC Radio 4 FM

By Gordon Cruikshank.
A moving account of how a man came to terms with his new identity as a tetraplegic after a road accident.

Gordon Cruikshank, a rally driver and eminent motorsports journalist, woke up in a German hospital in 1989, unable to move at all, except some muscles in his upper arms. He begged nurses to attach a stick to his hand so he could tap out his thoughts on to a computer. The result was a unique diary of almost 25,000 words. Peter Capaldi stars as Gordon Cruikshank.
