Sublime Words. At the beginning of the 20th century, classical music became a touchstone for writers who found in it a means of weaving together disparate themes in their novels. Modern-day novelists Peter Ackroyd , Alison Lurie and Rose Tremain are part of this tradition of authors who have used music to colour their work.
