Composer of the Week: Handel in Italy

on BBC Radio 3

4: Town and Country
Today Donald Macleod examines two significant works from Handel's Italian period. One shows the composer at play, providing the entertainment for a country wedding; the other, as the Handel scholar HC Robbins-Landon puts it, is "perhaps the major Handelian rediscovery of our age" - a vast oratorio, echoes of which reverberated throughout Handel's life.
Sorge il Di (Aci, Galatea e Potifemo), HWV72 David Thomas (bass), London Baroque, conductor Charles Mediam
Oratorio per la Resurrezione di Nostro SignorGesuCristo, HWV47(Part2)
