This week: Thora Hird introduces The First Lady
Is Sarah Danby's persistence a genuine search for truth or could it be termed muck-raking? Sarah Danby, George Kingston, and Will Tarrant settle down for a quiet evening in their respective homes. But a chance remark by Tom Danby brings them together for a shattering series of revelations which hurts each in turn...

In the opinion of Terence Dudley, who directed and wrote some episodes in the initial series, 'The First Stone' was 'about the best of all the stories,' bringing together the four protagonists in a closely-knit situation, and throwing an unusually penetrating light on the character of Sarah Danby. Terence Dudley, incidentally, is the producer of a second series of First Lady stories which begins next week.
