The Hong Kong Beat

on BBC One London

Nine documentary programmes which take a close look at the world's most controversial police force in action.
2: Chasing the Dragon
In Hong Kong, about one in every 45 is a drug addict. The older addicts still smoke opium. But the young people have turned to opium's deadly derivative - heroin. In Hong Kong, smoking heroin is called ' Chasing the Dragon.'
The task of eliminating the 'Dragon' has brought the police into conflict with the Triads, the Mafia of Hong Kong, who are sworn to secrecy under pain of 36 ferocious oaths. The result is that the police can round-up the addicts with almost pathetic ease, whilst the Mr Big - or even the Mr Not-so-Big - usually gets off scot-free.
