Basil Spence 's design for the new Coventry Cathedral was not, in his own words, ' a planning problem but the opportunity to create a Shrine to the glory of God.' It is an expression of his personal faith. But the model for this new building has called forth many epithets of a flippant and uncomplimentary kind: boot factory, cinema, and so on. Tonight he will face many questions about his controversial design.
