View in Radio Times

by Jane Smith
As a Juvenile Court magistrate, Jane Smith sees the effect of insecurity and deprivation on the children appearing before her as delinquents. At home, as a foster mother looking after three younger children also deprived of normal parental care, she encounters the same basic need at close range; and finds the two functions, mother and magistrate, hard to reconcile.
