FROM OBLIVIONTO OBSCURITY

on BBC Radio 3

or How to Make Your
Fortune as a Grocer
An autobiography by F. C. Ball
Some listeners will remember F. C. Ball's first programme A Brenth of Fresh Air-a portrayal of childhood in the Sussex countryside during the first world war. Like A Grotto for Miss Maynier, which described his life as a gardener's boy, it was based on one of his novels. From Oblivion to Obscuritu, his first original work for radio, is entirely autobiographical and describes with humorous sadness his brief career as a grocery assistant which began when he was fifteen.
