Twice M.P. for South Hackney; Minister of Transport from 1929 to 1931 ; Mayor of Hackney ten years earlier ; Secretary to the London Labour Party; and Chairman of the National Labour Party. He has risen from errand boy to Privy Councillor, and is now leader of the London County Council.
