The Sunday Feature: The Nature of Discovery

on BBC Radio 3

This year marks the centenary of the discovery of the electron, and the text books report that Crick and Watson discovered the structure of DNA in 1953. But is it really possible to attribute a single date and a name or two to findings such as these, which changed science? Peter Evans explores what discovery means for scientists now and in the past and asks if there are any parallels with creativity in the arts. Producer Deborah Cohen
