Last year the brilliant and controversial choreographer Maurice Bejart faced one of the greatest challenges of his colourful career. He was invited to present the world premiere of his ballet of Le Marteau Sans Maître by Pierre Boulez, at La Scala, Milan.
This Omnibus film, first shown last December, observes Béjart and his cast of seven dancers from his ' Ballet of the 20th Century ' during the weeks of preparation in Brussels, both in the rehearsal room and in their homes. During the course of rehearsals, Béjart had to face some unwelcome setbacks. The film shows how he and his dancers overcame these problems and follows them closely through the exciting events before, during and after the world premiere.
