The Second Meadow

on BBC Radio 4 FM

A personal experience recalled by Archie Hill
For three months in the autumn of 1976, Archie Hill left his family and lived entirely off the land in the Worcester-shire countryside. He saw no one, heard no radio, read nothing. He took only a small tent, a .22 air rifle, knife, matches, water container, one change of clothing. Why did he do this? What happened to him - to the state of his mind as well as his body - during those three months?
