By satellite from Hollywood, Barry Norman introduces highlights of last night's star-studded 58th Academy Awards ceremony.

The competition is dominated this year by four films - Out of Africa, The Color Purple, Prizzi's Honour and Witness - which between them have cornered 38 nominations.

Among the celebrities presenting this showbiz spectacular are Alan Alda, Jane Fonda, Cher, Sally Field, Michael J. Fox, Jim Henson and the Muppets, Audrey Hepburn, Bob Hope and Barbra Streisand
