SPANISH PIANOFORTE MUSIC
Played by NIEDZIELSKI
THE Foundations of Music on Monday and Tuesday are to be old Spanish Pianoforte Music. To the average Briton, that may well sound like a musical Mrs. Harris, and it would have been true enough, outside Spain, that 'there ain't no such thing' but for the enthusiasm of Joaquin Nin. Mo has collected a wealth of the early music of his own country which had lain buried in oblivion for decades, sometimes even centuries, and, from the examples which Niedzielski has chosen, it will be clear how well worth while the patriotic task has been.
Nin, as B.B.C. listeners have had chances of hearing for themselves, is himself a distinguished pianist and composer, a worthy disciple of Granados, who has done a great deal in the cause of contemporary Spanish art, too.
