Britain is represented tonight by Bill and Bobbie Irvine, world modern professional champions, and by Laird and Lorraine, the Latin-American champions. Altogether viewers will see some of the best dancers of sixteen nations taking part, including those of countries as far distant as Australia and Pakistan, Japan and South Africa. Germany, on their home ground, have the largest contingent, with six couples. Italy and Sweden have three each. The remainder have restricted their entries to one or two.
Peter West, giving the English commentary, is one of a polyglot band telling the story for viewers all over the world.
