talking to David Sylvester
While nowadays considered one of the leading British painters of his generation, Medley (born in 1905) was best known before the war as the designer for several of the Group Theatre's productions, including Auden and Isherwood's Ascent of F6 and MacNeice's version of the Agamemnon.
A large-scale retrospective exhibition of Robert Medley is at present showing in London at the Whitechapel Art Gallery.
