Afternoon Play: The Strange Affair of the Brown Dog

on BBC Radio 4 FM

The true story of one of the most intriguing controversies of Edwardian Britain. In 1903 a dog was cruelly experimented on at University College, London. Thanks to a Swedish medical student, this gave rise to eight years of riots and libel trials and also kick-started Britain's animal rights movement. Dramatised by Tony Coult from the book The Brown Dog Affair by Peter Mason.
