The Taras Report on The Last Days of Pompeii by ALAN LLOYD , abridged in nine parts by DONALD BANCROFT Read by Richard Pasco
1: How I Came to Pompeii
In AD 79 Vesuvius erupted and buried the city of Pompeii in grey ash. By doing so it preserved forever the treasures of this rich and corrupting city. Through the invention of the character of Taras, a chronicler from the East who arrives in Pompeii in time to witness one of the most terrifying catastrophes of ancient times, Alan Lloyd breathes life into the ghosts of Pompeii. He weaves fact with fiction and tells the story of a man trapped by forces he does not understand in a city that was one of the most magnificent in the Roman Empire!
