Wagner's Ring - the Rhinegold

Michael Portillo introduces a lavish production of the first opera in Wagner's epic four-part musical drama The Ring of the Nibelung, from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The story follows the forging of a powerful ring with gold stolen from three mystical maidens, and the struggle between man and gods to possess it.
Baritone Bryn Terfel makes his Wagnerian debut as chief of the gods Wotan, heading an international cast conducted by Antonio Pappano.
