Music of the Trouveres

on BBC Radio 3

Last year Radio 3 broadcast three programmes devoted to some of the earliest secular songs extant, those of the Provencal poet-composers known as the Troubadours. The influence of the Troubadours spread far afield but one immediate effect was on the following generation of musicians working just beyond the boundaries of Provence - the Trouveres. In a further three programmes Piers Burton-Page traces the development of the lyric impulse in Northern France. 2: Songs of Crusade
