The Lost Souls

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Australia's Shame
In Australia today there may be
100,000 people of Aboriginal descent who do not know who their parents are, who their brothers and sisters are, where they came from - or even whether they are Aboriginal or not. These are the "lost souls", the children who were taken away from their families by white society and placed in foster homes, institutions and missions. They were to be resocialised and trained as workers, domestic slaves and breeders for the "new Australia", where Aboriginality had no place. Clare Hampson investigates the attempted genocide of the Aboriginal people. Producer Sara Jane Hall
