Talk by the Rev. Dr. J. S. Purvis
Today, says the speaker, ' the historian, like the archaeologist, is entering upon a much fuller life; and a most welcome service is performed by any person or body that can open the riches of records and lead the way to understanding them.' In this context Dr. Purvis describes the establishment in York of the recently opened Borthwick Institute of Historical Research, of which he is the first Director.
