Following the success of previous days devoted to Mozart and Monteverdi, the European Broadcasting Union celebrates Christmas with a day-long sequence in which 14 different countries offer a taste of their own Christmas traditions. The day reflects a wide diversity of styles and periods, from the ancient Christmas music of the Holy Land to Slovak folk carols, and from the traditional Sami music of Lapland to Spanish flamenco.
Andrew Lyle introduces the first part of the day in London, and hands over to Anthony Burton at 1.00pm. There will also be Christmas readings throughout the day by Imogen Stubbs and Robert Hardy.
