The film that introduced tough black private eye John Shaft. Harlem racketeer Bumpy Jonas wants Shaft to find his daughter, whom he believes kidnapped by a gang led by an old friend of Shaft. But Shaft is also being pressed by police lieutenant Androzzi to investigate Jonas's activities.
