In 1740 two harpists, one Irish the other Welsh, met in Dublin for a musical duel. At stake was both personal and national pride, with honours eventually going to the Irishman. Nicola Heywood Thomas introduces a reconstruction of this battle of the bards recorded in the Banqueting Hall of Cardiff Castle, where on this occasion the final verdict was in the hands of a Welsh audience every bit as partisan as the original Irish jury. Harpist Andrew Lawrence King directs the Harp Consort.
