One day when young Dulcima Gaskain passes the squalid farm of miserly drunk Mr Parker, she helps him inside and offers to clean out his farmhouse. Soon wily old Mr Parker is persuading her to be his permanent housekeeper - and something more. But cunningly Dulcima is getting all she can as payment while secretly meeting a handsome young gamekeeper.
