Sergei Prokofiev and Anna Akhmatova were born within two years of each other; they strove for the same artistic ideals and for months at a time they lived in the same neighbourhood in St Petersburg. During five days in November 1916, Prokofiev set to music five of Akhmatova's early poems.
And yet they never met. Readers Carole Boyd and Nigel Anthony.
