For Lotte Lehmann , who sang with him, Alfred Piccaver had the most beautiful voice she ever heard. An Englishman. he was for more than a quarter of a century the principal tenor of the Vienna Opera.
NIGEL DOUGLAS , who studied with him in Vienna, tells the story of Piccaver's remarkable career and introduces rare records from the Vivian Liff collection which include excerpts from Rigoletto, The Tales of Hoffmann, Manon Les caut, Lohengrin, Fidelia, and La Bohème
