(Le Souffle au Coeur)
Directed by Louis MALLE starring
Lea Massari , Benoit Ferreux
The international season of films by six of Europe's most distin- guished directors continues with a French comedy about a young boy tormented by an Oedipus complex Dijon, 1954: 15-year-old Laurent Chevalier has begun to question the ready-made values handed him at school and at home, so his elder brothers decide it is time for his sexual initiation. The growing-up process is halted when Laurent is confined to bed with a heart murmur, but when his mother takes him to a mountain spa to convalesce he leaves his childhood behind for ever.
It's French, frank, Freudian and funny.
