Opéra Matinéee

on BBC Radio 3

Beatrice Cenci
Berthold Goldschmidt 's s second opera, to a libretto by Martin Esslin after
Shelley's The Cenci, was a winner of the Arts Council opera competition for the Festival of Britain in 1951 - but was not performed. The story - a compelling tale of incest and murder - is based on real events in Renaissance Italy.
