The Other Half

on BBC One London

with John Pitman
Six love stories about six very different couples - people in the public eye and the partners who share their private lives.
2: John and Miriam
They are known as 'racing's most glamorous couple' - handsome John Francome , current and four-times champion National Hunt jockey, and his beautiful model wife Miriam.
It's an unlikely combination. He was a working-class lad from Wiltshire, intent on marrying somebody rich 'so that I'd be set up for life'. She was a well-bred - but not wealthy - young lady from London, accustomed to being wined and dined by well-spoken young men from 'the right sort of background'. Today they are both rich and successful from a sport so dangerous that one in every ten rides ends in a fall.
'I'll be glad when he stops', says Miriam. 'He's been comparatively lucky, but every day falls take their toll'.
'She's got nothing to worry about', says John. 'I'm well insured, so if I kill myself she won't be destitute.'
