Sportsnight Special - Newcastle in Europe: AS Monaco v Newcastle United

on BBC One London

Live coverage of Newcastle United's Uefa Cup quarter-final second-leg match against Monaco, at the Louis II stadium.

Newcastle face an uphill battle in this game after their 1-0 first-leg defeat at St James' Park two weeks ago. Their attacking line-up was severely affected by injury and suspension in the home game, and with Alan Shearer still out through long-term injury, and the recent injury worry to Les Ferdinand, the Magpies may have to look to the attacking talents of Faustino Asprilla and Peter Beardsley, and the defensive strength of Darren Peacock, if they are to reach their first European semi-final since they won the Fairs Cup in 1969. Brazilian Sonny Anderson, whose goal separated the sides in the first leg, and Nigeria's Victor Ikpeba, who came on as substitute but has scored in every round of the competition so far, should prove the major obstacles in Newcastle's struggle against the high-flyers of the French league.

Commentary by John Motson with Chris Waddle. Introduced by Desmond Lynam, with match analysis by Alan Hansen and Ruud Gullit.
