Music Restored

on BBC Radio 3

A Chest of Viols
The Viol Consort was a particularly important force in the history of western music from around 1500 to 1700. With the help of members of Fretwork, Lucie Skeaping explores some of the wide repertoire composed for these instruments and also finds out about the make-up of the ensemble itself. Music, some of it specially recorded by Fretwork for the programme, includes works by Purcell, Dowland and Lawes. Producer Christina Pritchard
