Illinois Jacquet. Julian Joseph introduces recordings by the Louisiana-born tenor saxophonist who first came to prominence in the early forties with his solo on Lionel Hampton 's Flying Home and went on to work with Cab Calloway and Count Basie. Jacquet brought his own band to this countryforthe firsttime in 1992 to play at the Birmingham Jazz Festival. Highlights from this concert, given at the Grand
Hotel, include classics such as Basie's One o Clock Jump and Moten Swing.
