The Promised Land

on BBC Radio 2

Andy Kershaw presents a six-part musical travelogue of his trip across America retracing the route of Chuck Berry's song Promised Land.

In this third programme he discovers why the unassuming town of Athens, Georgia, is a breeding ground of American college counter-culture. He also interviews the Rev Jesse Jackson and re-creates the journey across the bridge at Selma, Alabama - a turning point for the civil rights movement.
