Private Passions

on BBC Radio 3

Michael Berkeley talks to art critic Brian Sewell , whose trenchant columns in the London Evening Standard have often aroused controversy. His eclectic choice of music ranges from Olivier Messiaen playing his own Transports de Joie from L 'Ascension on the organ of La Trinite in Paris, where the composer was organist for many years, to arias from Bellini's Norma and Verdi's
Rigoletto, the Coronation Scene from Musorgsky's Boris Godunov , songs by Purcell, Schubert and Richard Strauss , and the closing scene from Wagner's Lohengrin.
