A Man That Looks on Glass

on BBC Radio 4 FM

A man that looks on glass
On it may stay his eye; Or, if he pleaseth through it pass
And then the heaven espy.
(GEORGE HERBERT)
More than 20 years ago. Malcolm Miller was reading modern languages at the University of Durham. For a year he decided to study the medieval mind in the stained glass of Chartres Cathedral. Ever since, he has ' read ' the glass and sculpture for thousands of English-speaking visitors. His scholarly and, at times, eccentric commentary has inspired many. Producer
