William Kane and Abel Rosnovski are born on the same day but under vasjly different circumstances. Abel is the illegitimate son of a Polish peasant, Kane the heir to a Bostonian banking dynasty. While Abel suffers war and imprisonment before escaping to make his fortune in America, Kane enjoys the life of a wealthy socialite. The Wall Street Crash of 1929 brings them together and a lifelong vendetta begins.
