Pipe-Major Ross, who plays for Scottish listeners this evening from the height of Edinburgh Castle, got his early instruction from his father and mother, who were both skilled players. In 1896 he enlisted in the Scots Guards and took part in the South African War; during the Great War Pipe-Major Ross served with his battalion from the outbreak until June, 1918. He is now Instructor in the School of Army Pipers in Edinburgh Castle. The Pipe-Major, who has won many awards, always receives numerous letters of appreciation after a broadcast.
