The Unity of Contrasting Themes: No.2: Functional Analysis

on Third Programme

View in Radio Times

by Hans Keller
The Pro Musica Quartet: Patrick Hailing, Roger Raphael, Peter Sermon, Peter Hailing play Beethoven's String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95

The movements are linked with analytic music designed to show how the contrasting themes and the movements themselves hang together: thus the analysis is wordless. There is a three-minute interval after the analytic postlude to the slow movement.
