The shoe is. without doubt, the most complicated item in any woman's wardrobe. Wonderful machinery has been invented to help the modern shoe-maker with his traditional craft, but all shoes remain essentially a product of the skill of the hand and eye which the modern machintcan speed but cannot entirely take over. In the making of any shoe there are at least 150 separate operations with over 200 men and women working on it, many of whom have had their craft handed down to them through numerous generations.
