Great British
Songsmiths Leo Black continues his three-part series in which he looks back on his years devising and producing lieder recitals for the BBC. Among the singers represented today are
John Shirley-Quirk , Doris Soffel and Richard Lewis in Schubert, and Elizabeth Harwood and Sheila Armstrong in Strauss. The programme ends with Robert Tear singing a Schubert rarity, Die Einsamkeit, an extended song in which a novice sings of the frustrations of monastic life. In between the songs. Norbert Brainin and Lili Kraus play two Schubert sonatinas for violin and piano.
