Better than It Can Be Played Pianist Artur Schnabel devoted himself above all to the music of Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert, and 45 years after his death the force of his example still touches every pianist who aspires to the peaks of the classical repertoire. Some of today's distinguished players, including Schnabel pupils, discuss with Stephen Plaistow what it is that makes his legacy so inspiring. In the first of four programmes, all the music is by Beethoven and includes the Piano Sonatas in E flat, Op 7 and A flat, Op 110, and the Piano Concerto No 4 in G.
